Education Week: STEM

STEM tasks enable students to apply their learning in concrete and hands-on ways.

Students in Grade 5 learn about harnessing the power of wind, a renewable resource, to move objects, using everyday items.

Over at Schumacher Public School, students collaborate in the construction of a snow structure. Back in the classroom, this outdoor activity was followed by students drawing, labelling, and constructing their own structure using every day items applying what they have learned about structures.

Students at Kirkland Lake District Composite School apply their STEM learning to create Rube Goldberg Machines.

Meanwhile, students at Timiskaming District Secondary School in Mr. Hartzke’s science class, used their learning about STEM to design and create robots for a robotics challenge.
